But do people know where to find wisdom?  Where can they find understanding?  No one knows where to find it, for it is not found among the living... It cannot be bought for gold and silver.  Its value is greater than all the gold of Ophir, greater than the precious onyx stone or sapphires.  Wisdom is far more valuable than gold and crystal...  The price of wisdom is far above pearls...Topaz from Ethiopia cannot be exchanged for it... But do people know where to find wisdom?  Where can they find understanding?  For it is hidden from the eyes of humanity... God surely knows where it can be found.  For he looks throughout the whole earth, under all the heavens... ...And this is he says to all humanity: 'The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding. Wisdom.  We say and do seek our own wisdom in many ways which is according to the Apostle James chapter 3:15 earthly, unspiritual, motivated by the devil.  Wow! That's what God think of our wisdom. Great crowds were following Jesus.  He turned around and said to them, if you want to be my follower you must love me more than your own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters---yes, more than your own life.  Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple.  And you cannot be my disciple if you do not carry your own cross and follow me. Great crowds were following him and we think right away, shouldn't he be happy yeah Jesus that's what you want is it not.  Popularity... no Jesus didn't want a religion, he wanted a follower who was dedicated to the core, to his teaching and most of all to the cross.  This is one thing that separates us from the rest of the world, the cross, the blood and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  We, Christians are not superior we are different because of our beliefs and our love for Jesus. “Baruch, this is what the Lord says: I will destroy this nation that I build.  I will uproot what I planted. Are you seeking great things for yourself?  Don’t do it!  But don’t be discouraged. I will bring great disaster upon all these people, but I will protect you wherever you go.  I, the Lord, have spoken!” This is the shortest chapter in this book of Jeremiah, which is a prophecy to Baruch.  Baruch was the prophet Jeremiah's scribe and assistant. His name, Baruch means 'Blessed', what a nice name to have.  The prophecy was written in a time of turmoil among nations.  That is why Jeremiah tells his helper that he does not have to seek great things for himself at this time, but trust that God will protect him.  It is easy for people to be self seeking, especially in time of turmoil because depression settles in and we automatically self protect.  But in this case through these words we are told that God will do it for us.  We do not need to worry about our welfare.
