True Religion (James 1:26-27)

  26. If you claim to be religious but don't control your tongue, you are just fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.  27. Pure and lasting religion in the sight of God our Father means that we must care for orphans and widows in their troubles, and refuse to let the world corrupt us. I) Definitions of religion 1) A particular system of faith and worship 2) A pursuit or interest to which someone ascribe supreme importance These are interesting definitions as one can be taken to the extreme of the other.  More less, like the 1) to the extreme of number 2) in any of these 'so called' religions.  Any religion can become very extreme.  We just need to forgive one another as history changes with time.   7. But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.  8. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.  Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought.  Their leaves stay green, and they go right on producing delicious fruits. Born again: March 1979 Preamble: (1980) First of all, I was at a convention in Kelowna BC.  Surprisingly, the guest speaker who was from Belgium gave me these verses.  Moreover, they became my life's verses to live by. A tree was once planted by a river and grew strong, but not in its own strength.  It came from the mighty river Jordan,  Its roots grew long by the riverbank drawing water whenever it pleased.  A word of encouragement here and a smile of approval there would make that tree very fruitful and would cause it to prosper.  "They are like trees planted along the riverbank...in all they do, they prosper" (Psalm 1:3).  Of co

Don’t worry, be happy! (Psalm 37:1-3)

  1. Don't worry about the wicked.  Don't envy those who do wrong.  2. For like grass, they soon fade away.  Like springtime flowers, they soon wither.  3. Trust in the Lord  and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.  1) Don't worry! (v.1 a) Indeed, those words repeated though the Scriptures as a commandment, but do we pay attention to them.  In this case though, he adds..." about the wicked."   Well, that's revealing!  More light is shed on the subject as we go along further.... 2) Don't envy those who do wrong (v.1 b) Well, now it makes more sense.  Do we ever wish that we had it as good or better than the wicked?  This is the kind of worry, envy that is meant!  Not at all feeling sorry for them because in reality without Christ they have it a whole lot worse than we have, but instead envying them because they seem to get away with a lot.  I have been in that position of envy all my life, being the eldest of four boys, I did envy th
