A Call to the Church (Zephaniah 2:1-3)

Gather together and pray, you shameless nation.  Gather while there is still time, before judgment begins and your opportunity is blown away like chaff.  Act now, before the fierce fury of the Lord falls and the terrible day of the Lord's anger begins.  Beg the Lord to save you---all you who are humble, all you who uphold justice.  Walk humbly and do what is right.  Perhaps even yet the Lord will protect you from his anger on that day of destruction.     (Zephaniah 2:1-3)

Are we not just a bit shameless? And if so assume that it is still alright before a holy God to think that when this passage addresses a 'shameless nation' it does not include us?  Are we so filled with pride that when the call to repent does not concern us since, after all, we have the grace?

Yes this shameless nation is still called to a gathering of prayer.  A pastor can easily be ignored for quite sometime.  But now God comes on the scene and calls by what we really are, 'shameless', having committed adultery and still admitting we have not done anything wrong.  No guilt and yet guilty of much.  We need prayer folks!  In gatherings, in multitudes for Satan has blinded us and wrapped us in fear.  We think we are free but we are bound.  We think we have grace but need the gracious One.  Folks! All this God has spoken to me and I know it because of his timing and dealing with me.  Even so in this passage the humble also have to beg the Lord for protection for it is God who judges.  We ought to no longer assume.

We are rejoicing in the coming Rapture without thinking that there might first be a coming judgment on the Church and the world.

Why do we need to gather for prayer?  It's not only because of Covid-19.  It's because time is short. In verse 2, 'Gather while there is still time'

This morning, in our town of Chetwynd, the electrical power was out for nearly 3 hours as a tree had fell on the lines because of the strong wind.  I believe during that time people had their thoughts focused on that power they no longer had while they should have focused on the eternal power of Jesus.  A power that never cuts off or fades away.  This is also the reason why this post is late.

This is why you need to pray...The power in us is lacking!

Have a great day!
