The Wonder of his Presence (Psalm 76:1-12)
I love the Bible, I love the Lord. One of my most favorite book is the book of Psalms. The Lord is actually teaching me how to study his Word more responsibly. By meditating on it for a while I can picture the scene of the psalm I am reading. The psalm I meditated on is psalm 76.
What a psalm!
The first couple verses talk about places where the Lord is 'well known', where he is 'great' and where 'he lives' and 'has his home'. His very Presence! That's how you go to war and face your enemies with his Presence and conquer them. That's where your enemies fear for their lives
The enemy can't stand in the Lord's Presence or before it.
"No wonder you are greatly feared! Who can stand before you when your anger explodes? From heaven you sentenced your enemies; the earth trembled and stood silent before you." (Psalm 76:7-8)
And look at verse 10 which is a real slap in the enemy's face:
"Human opposition only enhances your glory, for you use it as a sword of judgment."
He is probably talking mostly about persecutions and direct attacks from humans, but it does not imply any diseases.
We are then not only encourages to keep and fulfill our vows, but to actually make them first hand.
The psalm concludes: "Let everyone bring tribute to the Awesome One. For he breaks the spirit of princes and is feared by the kings of the earth" (Psalm 76:11-12)
'Bringing tributes' means bringing a gift, a compliment, a testimonial to someone and in this case it is to the Awesome One.
What a shame that when it's time to share in a church congregation, nobody stand up to give glory to God. Surely God must have done something that glorifies him in our midst!
So stand up and be the first one next Sunday and be ready!
Keep your eyes open during the week and see what the Lord will do!
