The Battle Within (Romans 6:16)
The
Battle Within
Here at home, I do some shores and one of them is
washing dishes. As it happened, I was
having my devotion time with the Lord. In
the back of my mind, I was also thinking about washing the dishes.
During that time, I waited on the Lord, which meant
waiting for his timing. Instead of
rushing from my quiet time to wash the dishes.
Finally, through his voice in my spirit he prompted me
to start the dishes.
It made me think of this incident between Martha and
Mary (Luke 10:38-42)
Martha was busy with the shores around the home and
Mary had chosen to spend time at the feet of Jesus. In verse 42 Jesus even tells Martha that Mary
has chosen what is better.
I suppose there need to be a balance, we could be so
busy that we forget to spend time with Jesus or vice versa. The balance comes with practice. As for myself I have been a Christian for
over 40 years, and I am still learning from him the obedience to His Spirit’s
promptings. The solution is to be born
again and have the Holy Spirit within you.
This is a good start!
I came up with the conclusion that the competition
between those two sisters, Martha and Mary are right here within us. Between the flesh and the spirit. In Romans
6:16, we are told: “Do you not know that the one to whom you present yourselves
as slaves for obedience you are slaves of that same one whom you obey, either
of sin resulting in death, or obedience resulting in righteousness?” Not that doing shores is evil, but we must do
them in obedience to the Spirit and not in the flesh. In conclusion, Martha was
not evil but if she had considered Jesus to be first in her life, she might have
joined Jesus and Mary on the sofa, and they would have both learned from
Jesus. So as a priority and a goal in
our lives we should all put our listening to Jesus as a priority.
