The Party is almost over! (John 16:7-11) (2 Thessalonians 2:7)
But it is actually best for you that I go away, because if I don't the Counselor won't come. If I do go away, he will come because I will send to you. And when he comes, he will convince the world of its sin, and of God's righteousness, and of the coming judgment. The world's sin is unbelief in me. Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more. Judgment will come because the prince of this world has already been judged.
Jesus was letting his disciplesknow before his crucifixion that soon he would go away but that he would not leave them alone, consequently, he would send the Counselor which is one of the title of the Holy Spirit. Another title for the Holy Spirit is Comforter. These titles refers only to the Holy Spirit relation to the believer. Unfortunately, the Holy Spirit has been abused by a lot of people. To name a few of those abuses, he is not a "it" making him a thing. He is a person, he is God himself in the form of the Spirit. He has been ignored by most religions and cults, he is still there. It is not because you ignore him that he goes away. In fact, if he did go away you would not like it because the world would be in chaos like you have never seen it before.
In fact, the Bible refers to him, (not it), as the one who restrains. In 2Thessalonians 2:7 (ESV) 'For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.'
Now this verse means that since this was written...about 2000 years ago the lawlessness has been at work in this world and it has gradually worked its way to today preparing the way for the Antichrist to come. Will the Holy Spirit who restrains lawlessness go away just before the Antichrist comes or a few years before. We don't know. We just know that the Holy Spirit has been the one who convince the world of its sin and of God's righteousness. How can evil and good dwell together. So obviously when the Holy Spirit goes away, the one who restrains all things and keep everything under control will cause all evil to break loose. It wouldn't be fun for anybody that's why we have to be prepared and be warned that this is going to happen. The world might think that the party will just begin and stealing and killing will then be rampant. But unfortunately, the party will be over and the one who was restraining the party of going wild will be out of the way.
This truth should cause the believers to rejoice because when the Holy Spirit is taken away, we too will go with him and taken up to be with the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior forever amen! On the other hand it should cause the unbelievers to tremble in fear at what is about to come because one of the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to tell the believer all about the future...In John 16:13'....He will tell you about the future'. He is telling the believers everywhere...Be ready for Jesus is coming!
The believer's faith is very secured by the Holy Spirit. His or her Comforter until the end. The Holy Spirit by his very role in the world is offering Hope and Comfort to each and convincing the world of its sin so that the world will come to a knowledge of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.
