Salvation! (1 Peter 1:10-12)
This salvation was something the prophets wanted to know more about. They prophesied about this gracious salvation prepared for you, even though they had many questions as to what it all could mean. They wondered what the Spirit of Christ within them was talking about when he told them in advance about Christ's suffering and his great glory afterward. They wondered when and to whom all this would happen. They were told that these things would not happen during their lifetime, but many years later, during yours. And now this Good News has been announced by those who preached to you in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. It is all so wonderful that even the angels are eagerly watching these things happen.
How exciting it is to see that this Apostle of Hope, Peter is the one who was used to launch the Church into Pentecost and now through his writings is the one to usher us into this salvation that is still to come. The salvation of our souls. Evidently, in his words as he says in verse 5: "God....will protect you until you receive this salvation...It will be revealed on the last day for all to see.
I would even venture to say that the salvation he is talking about encompass as we know it the salvation of our spirits and also is yet to come to the true Church of Jesus Christ when he comes in all his glory. Presently, though he is talking about the one still to come
Imagine the prophets! Looking forward to this salvation and secretly hoping to see it happen in their lifetime. O the joy of wondering and the questions they would have had. Could you think of some of those questions? I can think of Isaiah 53 as the prophet foretold of Christ's crucifixion as if he could almost live it.
Peter is showing us in these verses that it took a lot of travailing and wondering from the prophets and work from the Holy Spirit through his people to finally bring us that Good News of salvation the one we have and the one still to come. Now the angels are even watching attentively and eagerly these things happening. I think he wants us to know how precious and gracious that salvation really is and will be.
O what a salvation! That we look forward to, as our trials become insignificant. The negative events in our lives fade away before us as we focus on that glorious event. The salvation of our souls when Christ comes for us.
Have a great day!
