Humble Pursuit (Psalm 119:57-64)

 

57.  Lord, you are mine!  I promise to obey your words!  58. With all my heart I want your blessings.  Be merciful just as you promised.  59. I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow your statutes.  60. I will hurry, without lingering, to obey your commands.  61. Evil people try to drag me into sin, but I am firmly anchored in your law.  62. At midnight I rise to thank you for your just laws.  63. Anyone who fears you is my friend---anyone who obeys your commandments.  64. O Lord, the earth is full of your unfailing love; teach me your principles.   (Psalm 119:57-64)

1) A prayer of the Word (v.57)

Affectionately acknowledging his intimacy with his Father, he makes this sacred promise to obey his Word.

2) A plea for God's blessings (v.58)

 Prayerfully, he asks for the greatest of blessings  which is mercy.

3) Pausing for life (v.59)

Meditatively, he consider the way to go in life and turns to do what is right.

4) Proper action (v.60)

Promptly, without hesitation he obeys for the glory of God and for his own good.

5) Walking victoriously (v.61)

Firmly anchored in the law of love, he won't fear the evil people's snares.

6) Midnight wake (v.62)

Next, he wakes up at midnight to thank the Lord for his laws

7) Anyone (v.63)

Truly, anyone who is welcomed by God is in fellowship with me as well.

8) Unseen love (v64)

Unaware of his unfailing love humans are too busy to care, yet David faithfully learns the laws

The Fruit of the Spirit...Patience?

  As I was being tested, patience was required, and I was waiting with much complaining.   Then my wife encouraged me to read the Fruit of the Spirit out of the Amplified version of the Bible.   So, I did and here it is: “But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others],   joy [inner] peace , patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting],   kindness, goodness,   faithfulness,   gentleness,   self-control.   Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23) These verses not only apply to us as we go through our daily life but especially as we wait for the Lord’s return.   How we act while we wait for him does matter and it is very important.   We learn as we go through trials.   For a lot of people, the word “patience” is not welcome in their vocabulary, and I can tell by my own life I am not the only one who finds it difficult to act well while we wait.   We can all wait as this

Is It a Blue Christmas?

  Just to Let everyone know that I usually post on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays .  I will try to keep posting during Christmas as well on those days.   Is It a Blue Christmas? For those people who are fortunate to not grieve right now please bear with us.  My mother passed away last May.  I am living now in her house with my wife.  If my wife was not with me, I would find this very difficult.  Being in this house is so emotional and everything reminds me of what it used to be when I was with my parents.  Sunday morning the pastor preached on one of the attributes of the son that was to be born to Mary and Joseph about 700 years after the prophecy in the book of Isaiah 9:6. The Holy Spirit: My Guarantee

  Holy Spirit is a Guarantee   Being a Christian is not based on emotions or on an opinion, but it must be based on assurance of the Comforter in me . The Holy Spirit is the seal of guarantee of the Eternal life God has promised to every Christian. We know we are a Christian not by our feelings but by the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.   The Spirit is the guarantee [the first installment, the pledge, a foretaste] of our inheritance until the redemption of god’s own [purchased] possession [His believers], to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:14 Amplified )    It is a personal reason   For this very reason we ought to praise him. It is a personal reason for our well-being as Christian. We are going to make it because of the Holy Spirit being active in our lives.   We must allow him to be involved in our daily lives intimately, not holding on to any of our self-ambitions.
