The I AM's of God
The
“I am’s” of God
All that you need
If you know him as he is, you don’t need another
miracle. To know him should be your
miracle. All that he is, is with you.
Because he is with you, it makes sense when he also says: “I will never leave
you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
When you understand that truth, you will be alone. When you trust him, all your needs are met.
I am who I am (Exodus
3:14)
God said to Moses,
"I AM WHO I AM. Here is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has
sent me to you.'"
This was the original
verse of the I AM's. The first time that
God was promising Moses that he would go with him to the Israelites. The name I
AM packs a punch and suggest that all the names of God are included in it. It
was under God's authority that Moses went to them. The names of God and Jesus also show people
that you come under his authority and not your own. In the New International
Reader's Version, it says it this way: "Teach them to obey everything I commanded
you. And you can be sure that I am
always with you, to the very end."(Matthew 28:20). In other word, the I AM is always with you
even to the very end. The same I AM who
was with Moses then, is with you today.
Now, we are going to see that this I AM who was with Moses and is now
with us came in the flesh as a baby and grew up to be our Saviour and Lord if
we believe in him. He is also the Alpha
and Omega, the beginning and the end.
The 'I am's of Jesus in
the New Testament
Briefly now I will go
through seven of the I am's of Jesus in the New Testament. We already have seen a couple of them.
-
"I am the bread of life" (John
6:35-51) He sustains us by his Presence in our spiritual life.
-
"I am the light of the
world"(John 8:12) Although the darkness of this world is becoming thicker
all the time, he provides light to those who are lost. He is our faithful guide.
-
"I am the door of the
sheep."(John 10:7,9) He is the door when they come in after a long
day. He is the door that they should go
through.
-
"I am the resurrection and the
life." (John 11:25) This statement offers hope for now and for the future
if you are his. It is a 'no fail' recipe
for success. Whether you die today or
tomorrow he will raise you up and you can rest in this. His name is his promise to you. It is his signature for guarantee.
-
"I am the good shepherd." (John
10:11,14) A shepherd is a friend to the sheep.
He looks thoughtfully after them.
-
"I am the way, the truth, and the
life (John 14:6) He is all of those with confidence. You can count on it. It is a sure fact. He is the source of all of them. Assuredly, every other way or truth or life
will lead to failure."I am the true vine" (John 15:1,5) He is the
true provider of life for us as we rely solely on him. Any other process is a religious work and is
dead. Through him is the way to become
fruitful in our life. We bear fruit as we depend on him. The “I am’s of God are
all found in Jesus also.
