Rich or Poor? (James 2:1-13)

Rich or Poor? (James 2:1-13)

Discrimination in the Church does not exist, right?

Wrong! It might have to do with choosing between the rich and the poor.  There are other categories we might want to put people in like: business owners and farmers or employers and employees.  Even disabled physically or mentally vs. able people.  Just to name a few.  Whatever your conscience accuses you of.  If your conscience bothers you about anything, is it now time to repent?

Life is full of small choices that bring us either closer to or further from God.  In the book of ‘Song of Solomon’ in your Bible. (Chapter 2:15) encourages us to take care of the ‘little foxes.

It is more intended for a married couple, but it could apply to anyone.  “Little foxes” could be anywhere in the body of Christ (the Church).  Little foxes can be in families between a husband and a wife or between siblings. In various relationships at work of otherwise.  Do you have a ‘chip’ on your shoulder?  Foxes are out to destroy crops out in the fields.  They are out to raise havoc in the farmer’s economy.  In finances, sometimes shows many foxes.  They need to be taken care of soon.

In the letter of James (Chapter 2:1-13, the rich were favored over the poor.  The rich would have a special spot in the church and the poor might even be told to sit on the floor.  I am just wondering if James is giving us a basic and obvious habit to show us our heart’s attitude in other areas of our lives.  After all, why stop at rich and poor?  Are we discriminating in other areas of our lives?  Did you ever walk on the opposite side of a street to someone?  Would you hold back from giving some money to a person in need and playing music on the street?  What is your heart saying to you now?  Life is full of choices and some of those choices involve clean up.  Taking care of business…God-related business instead of ‘Me’ business.

We can always make excuses to not love someone.  Maybe it’s time to show some compassion instead.  God sees the heart of the Church and everyone.  Sometimes it is ugly!
