Finding the Resting Place (Hebrews 4:3-12)
As I was preparing this post, I shared with my spouse that we were only here in this temporary place for another year and a half. Which offers the perfect platform for what I write in this post. What will you do next? Someone may ask and as crazy as this may seem we can confidently answer. We don’t know but the One who holds the world in his hands knows.
You see, even though this may sound like a shaky deal
it is not…it is as firm as a block of concrete in the ground. On the contrary, what the world has to
offer is fleeting like a house build in the sandy foundation.
I base my assurance on the faith in the God who can
move mountains. My faith rests in Him. That is where my rest comes from. In trusting the unmoveable and unshakable
God who is All Powerful. The
Israelites could have tapped in him, but they chose to worry and not believe.
Because the Holy Spirit dwells in you can do better and believe. Faith is the victory that overcomes the
world.
The fourth chapter of the Epistle to the
Hebrews is one of my favourites because it speaks of the rest
we could have if we would only believe and trust the Lord.
For only we who believe can enter his
rest. As for the others, God said, “In
my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter my place of rest,’ ”
Even though this rest has been ready since
he made the world. (Hebrews 4:3)
So let us do our best to enter that
rest. But if we disobey, we will fall. (Hebrews
4:10)
Knowing Hopelessness
I found out the hard way what hopelessness was:
suicidal thoughts, loneliness. Thank God
I was already a believer who did know better but because I was listening to
these thoughts, I got sucked in by them and tormented by the devil. What got me out of them was by training my
mind to simply ignore them and do away with them. The Lord helped me to focus
on the positive in a situation.
Hopelessness is essentially unbelief and from that point on you lose peace,
and you find no rest.
Trusting God is for the Christian the antivenom
for sin because trust comes through Jesus Christ, and he
is the only one who can give you rest for your soul. With rest comes hope and trust also peace and
you can’t find it any other way. I know
for some people it might be frustrating to realize that there is no other way
that are legit, but not for me. God has
put a straight path before me, and it is to ‘Trust in Him.’ He is the One I chose to believe in and will
rest in.
For
the Word of God is alive and powerful…(Hebrews 4:12)
