Honour Jesus Anyway (Mark 15:16-20)

And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor’s headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion.  And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him.  And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”  And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him.  And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of his purple cloak and put his own clothes on him.  And they led him out to crucify him. (Mark 15:16-20)

Introduction

In these verses, the author Mark offers the most details about the way Jesus, an innocent man who is the Son of God suffered humiliation.  The world has not changed much in over 2000 years.  Nothing to be proud of course.  We are still condemning innocent men and women and setting criminals free.  There is total disregard for justice.  All I can say is: “God help us to be on the right side of God.”

No historical records

Yes, you are right there are no historical records of crucifixions.  The soldiers could not be bothered to record.  All we have are reliable religious records.  The point is that whether you regard Jesus as a political figure or others.

Spoken or silent witness are evidence.

He changed the course of many lives who have testified and witnessed his changes in their lives.  No matter where I turn among my fellow born again Christians, I have not found one in my short life who has witnessed God not being faithful to them.  That says a lot considering we cannot say the same thing about most politicians we have in power today.  I would venture to say in almost any countries today.

Stability and Power

The world is looking for stability and power and it is in Jesus who is the Son of God.  Crucified and risen for us that without shame we might honour him any way we can.  In this endeavour we will always gain and never lose.  Trust me I have seen his glory in my life displayed.  I was on the verge of suicide and he rescued me.  His blood can set you free.
