Listening to Wisdom (Proverbs 2:1-7)

My child listen to what I say, and treasure my commands.
Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding,
out for insight, and ask for understanding.
Search for them like hidden treasures.
Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
For the Lord grants wisdom!
From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
He guard the path of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.

Wisdom has to be heard and listened to.  It does not come so obviously on the sheet of your Bible because that would be legalistic.  We don't live by the letter of the Law, but by the Spirit.  Your ears have to be tuned in and that requires adjustment.  It's not the same for everybody and we don't all come from the same cookie cutter.  We actually don't come from a cutter at all.  We were each fashioned by God for a specific purpose  and not for the same one.  We have to concentrate on understanding, it's not a given, it comes from individual meditation and prayer.  We can no longer judge one another because each one hears wisdom differently.  We can't put people in boxes of the same size and color. The Spirit of the Lord moves in mysterious ways, prompting one to do one thing and the other to do something different.
Hidden treasures are not obvious, you don't just need a map but a compass as well.  You have to search for them with the wisdom of the Spirit.
The word "grant" means, 'to let have as a favor'. That is one of the meaning of the word in the Free dictionary online.

Now as we see in the rest of the chapter wisdom can be very obvious. It will keep you, if you are still listening to it, from evil people and keep you safe from the immoral woman.  It gives you pretty strong warning about a promiscuous woman.

The chapter ends in verse 21-22 with the destiny of both the righteous and wicked.  The righteous remains and the wicked is removed.
